Book some time at the Bandera Library
By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director
The bad news is the library is still closed to the public. The good news is we still have so much to offer for the community. We are still doing curbside checkouts for patrons. This includes all the books and DVDs and now also magazines and puzzles. Simply reserve the title you would like online through your library account and the library staff will have everything ready for you when you pull up. Due to the novel coronavirus, the federal government has postponed Tax Day to Wednesday, July 15. If you are working on your taxes at home now, and need the forms or booklets, we can get you those too.
We have also recently begun our very first library blog. This will be updated often with new information about our services and any fun and useful resources for our patrons. You can find this on our homepage www.banderacountylibrary.org. If you follow us on Facebook or Instagram, you can also see what is new at the library.
Although most of our programming has had to be postponed indefinitely, the Dungeons and Dragons group is meeting online with a system called Roll20. Contact Matt at [email protected] if you would like more information or to join in on the fun. Speaking of online meetings, the Library now is hosting online meetings through Zoom. Zoom is a website that has been getting a lot of buzz recently. You can use it to host a meeting or a chat with multiple people on video or just audio. It’s a great way to stay connected to your coworkers and clients. Now during this time of social distancing, many people are using it as a way to stay connected to family and friends. If you are interested in hosting your meeting that would regularly meet in one of the library’s conference rooms online, give the library a call to get more information on a Zoom meeting.
Some new titles coming out this week are David Baldacci’s latest thriller “Walk the Wire.” The Memory Man, Amos Decker, is called to a fracking town in North Dakota with his FBI colleague Alex Jamison. The town is growing faster than it should and the two agents can tell it is ripe for trouble. A woman’s body has been discovered, which would be routine enough for police work except that the body had been expertly autopsied before being dumped. Decker and Jamison realize this town has more secrets that could possibly be kept quiet.
Many consider “Tombstone” one of the greatest Western films ever made. Fans of the movie will enjoy Tom Clavin’s new book “Tombstone: The Earp Brothers, Doc Holliday, and the Vendetta Ride from Hell.” Clavin digs deep into the legends surrounding the story of Wyatt and Warren Earp and Doc Holliday going vigilante in the hunt for Johnny Ringo, Curly Bill and the other cowboys who were involved in the bloody gunfight that killed one of the Earp brothers. Be sure to reserve the DVD when you are done reading this book.
Happy tales, y’all.
