Lakehills Library Leanings

By Vicki L. George
The Bandera Prophet

The Lakehills Area Library is following the lead of the Bandera Independent School District and the orders of Governor Abbott. As long as the schools remain closed, the library will also remain closed to the public. Therefore, at this time, the library will be closed throughout the month of May and all library events are canceled.
However, the board will meet at mid-month and things could change. The library will posts updates on Facebook.
Even though they are closed to the public, the director has announced that the free WiFi is available in the parking lot.
The staff will be there. If a patron wants a particular book or DVD, they can call the library ahead of time and a staff member can hand it through the door. The staff can take care of copying, printing, faxing, and notarizing at the door. Library card holders can reserve books and DVDs online at the website and pick them up at the library door. Returned items must be placed in the book return bin outside. Patrons can call with requests for items and services, and with their questions. By calling the library, a newcomer can be given a library card.
Library cards are free and borrowing books and DVDs cost nothing. The other services have fees: Printing and copying cost 15 cents a page and faxing costs $1 a page. Director Dianna Landes is a Notary and can notarize documents for a few dollars.
Board Member Lauren Walthour received an honor. Voices de la luna, an organization that promotes literature and arts by serving as a platform for artists and authors to share their work, chose her poem, Remember, for National Poetry Month 2020, calling it “words and images to inspire.” Her poem was originally published in the November 2017 issue of their magazine. Their website is voicesdelaluna.org.
During this time of social distancing, the library’s hours are Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is located at 7200 FM 1283 and the phone number is 830-510-2777. Their website is lakehillslibrary.org. They will keep everyone posted on Facebook.
