Book some time at the Bandera Library
By Mauri Guillen Fagan
Bandera Library Director
Ready to look for books? The Bandera Library will begin taking appointments for patrons to browse for books starting Monday, June 15. Appointments for browsing as well as using the public access computers are available from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. and from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. We are requiring patrons entering the building to use a face mask and to practice social distancing while in the building. Rest assured, we are doing everything we can to keep the public spaces clean and healthy. We will also continue to offer curbside service for patrons. Call to make your appointment or set up a reserve.
The library is gearing up for our first ever grab-and-go Summer Reading Program. This year’s theme is “Imagine Your Story.” You can download the registration form on our website https://banderacountylibrary.org/summer-reading-2020 and email it to us or you can call and the librarians can register your child over the phone. Kids and parents can pick up a bag with books, activities, and themed surprises each week. After completing the activities, they will return their bags to be filled the next week. Summer Reading begins on Monday, June 22, and will end on Friday, July 31. We hope you can participate.
Out this week is a Tom Clancy thriller by Mike Maden called Firing Point. This book is number six in the Jack Ryan, Jr. series. Jack Ryan, Jr. is relaxing in a Barcelona café on vacation when he unexpectedly runs into an old friend. Rene Moore is at first surprised to see Ryan, but soon becomes irritable and distracted. The two makes plans to meet up later and Ryan walks away. When a suicide bomber destroys the café he had only just been in, Ryan races back looking for his friend. He is able to find her and she manages to speak a single word to him before she dies. This word and the sudden loss of his friend sends him on a journey to find the culprits.
Joyce Carol Oates’ new novel Night. Sleep. Death. the Stars. is about a family who has recently lost their powerful patriarch. At the sudden loss of their authoritative parent, each of the adult children reacts in different and sometimes disturbing ways. Their mother’s reaction is even more surprising. As this family grapples with their loss, they are forced to deal with pent up trauma, grief and eventually healing.
The library is located at 515 Main Street across from the courthouse. Our updated hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you have any questions, please call the library at 830-796-4213.
Happy tales, y’all.
