Book some time at the Bandera Library

By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director

The Bandera Library will continue taking appointments for patrons for all services. This includes browsing for books, copy/fax services and using the public access computers.  Appointments are available from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. and from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. Don’t forget your mask though. We require them for everyone coming into the library.
This week we kick of the 2020 Summer Reading Program. It will be our first ever Grab-and-Go program. It’s not too late to sign your little ones up. Registrations forms can be picked up at the Library circulation desk or you can download it from our website www.banderacountylibrary.org. The Bandera Library would like to thank BEC for generously sponsoring the program. Their support will provide the supplies for all the arts and crafts activities, prizes, snacks for the children and themed books for the Library’s collection.
Out this week is a new thriller by Elizabeth Kay called Seven Lies. Best friends Jane and Marnie have shared everything since childhood. Right up until Marnie marries a wealthy man Jane cannot stand. When asked if she likes him, Jane says that she does. That is the first lie Jane tells reasoning sometimes its better to keep the truth from your best friend. Perhaps if she had told the truth Marnie’s husband would still be alive. Lies between the two begin to accumulate. The two must grapple with their friendship and their darkest secrets.
Max Brooks has a new novel out called Devolution: A Firsthand Account of the Rainier Sasquatch Massacre. The story is mostly told through journals of a woman named Kate Holland who along with her husband help found a town called Greenloop. The town is populated with technology experts who want to be cut off from the world and outsiders, but still want internet access. Things begin to go wrong almost immediately. Mount Rainier erupts sending smoke and flame throughout the West coast. When ash finally settles an impossibly dark story emerges from Greenloop. Piecing together the story from Kate’s journals, interviews of real life park rangers and those who claim to have seem “them”, Devolution tells a story of what happens when humans discover they are no longer alone.
New in non-fiction is UnDo It!: How Simple Lifestyle Changes can Reverse Most Chronic Diseases by Dr. Dean Ornish and Anne Ornish. Dr. Ornish pioneered the field of lifestyle medicine. His theory is that by making lifestyle changes you can positively affect your body including reversing heart disease, type 2 diabetes, prostate cancer, high blood pressure and even depression.
The library is located at 515 Main Street across from the Courthouse our updated hours are Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you have any questions, please call the library at 830-796-4213.
Happy tales, y’all.
