Cruisin’ the East End
Serving Pipe Creek, Lakehills and Mico
By Vicki L. George
The Bandera Prophet
Although I couldn’t get photos, I am pleased to report that the boat parade was a huge success, with 120 entries putting on quite a display of fun and patriotism. And the fireworks show Saturday evening was spectacular. Many thanks to all who participated in our wonderful Independence Day celebration!
I also heard that the American Legion barbecue was a big success, with a long line of vehicles picking up the delicious chicken and sausage plates. This fundraiser certainly helps our Legion Post 410 with all their many community projects. Again, many thanks to our veterans, who served our country as well as the amazing food. And special thanks to all who drove by to enjoy their efforts.
ALAMO RC&D will distribute fans at the food distribution on Friday, July 17, at Faith Tabernacle, 7789 FM 1283. The fans are for senior citizens who need them and are pre-registered at alamorcd.org.
The organization asks for donations to purchase the new 20-inch box fans to be distributed. You can donate the money to purchase the fans on the website: alamorcd.org.
It is by appointment only and seniors over 55 must pre-register online at the website, alamorcd.org or by calling or texting.
The organization needs volunteers to help with the picking up, the sorting, and the distributing of food and fans. To volunteer, or to sign up, email or text: [email protected] or 210-548-9248.
FAMILY HOME GARDEN PROJECT is a fairly new endeavor at the Lakehills Civic Center, 11225 PR 37. It was begun by new board member Henry Wolanski as a way to help people to raise their own food. He does a live chat every Saturday at 10 a.m. and welcomes gardeners and would-be gardeners to check in at the website: familyhomegarden.weebly.com. The chat is two-way, where anyone can ask questions and share their information.
While on the website, one can sign up for his newsletter, which will entitle recipients to special offers, including free seeds. Also on the site is a blog where one can access previous information.
EARLY VOTING will continue this week for the Democratic Party run-off, until Friday, July 10.
