Book some time at the Bandera Library
By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director
Have you signed up your kids or grandkids for the Summer Reading Program yet? We are in our third week of the program, but there is plenty of time to participate. Go to our website https://banderacountylibrary.org/summer-reading-2020 to download the registration form or you can call the library and arrange to pick one up. The theme this year, Imagining Your Story, helps kids use and expand their imagination. Participants can pick up a grab-and-go bag with the week’s books, materials for the craft project and a small snack.
Just because we are not hosting public programs in the building doesn’t mean your group can’t meet. The library has Zoom online meeting rooms available. Call to get more information on how to reserve one. These rooms are considered a part of the library and our meeting room policies still apply. The Country Music Group will meet Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. until noon on the back patio. All skill levels and acoustic instruments are welcome. On Saturday, the Dungeons & Dragons group will meet online to play for their weekly session starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday until the game concludes (around 1 p.m.). Send an e-mail to [email protected] to join in on an adventure.
We are grateful for everyone’s donations of books, but we are now at capacity. We will not be able to accept book or DVD donations until next month. Stay tuned for more information. The library is always on the lookout for new volunteers. If you are interested in contributing and being a part of this great place give us a call at 830-796-4213.
This week’s featured title promise to be great reads. Demagogue: The Life and Long Shadow of Senator Joe McCarthy by Larry Tye is the definitive biography of one of the most notorious men in American history. For the first time, a biographer has written a complete review of his personal and professional papers, medical records, military records and recently unsealed transcripts of closed-door Congressional sessions. Tye does a masterful job of writing McCarthy’s story so that it reads like a novel.
Happy tales, y’all.
