Lakehills Library Leanings

By Vicki L. George
The Bandera Prophet

The Lakehills Area Library remains open and allows 10 patrons at a time to enter from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Masks are required and no seating is available.
Two computers will be available and limited to one-hour use per patron and they ask that your reserve your time for the computer. Social distancing is requested.
Ancestry.com is freely available to patrons, either in the library or from home, through the month of August. From home, simply go to lakehillslibrary.com and click on the Catalog link at the top of the page. A new tab will open with the catalog on it. Enter your library card number, and your phone number as your password. Scroll down the left hand column, with the list of the online resources and Ancestry should be at the bottom of the list. Just click on Ancestry.
The Genealogy Group asks for the community’s help in raising the annual fee to access Ancestry. Mail any amount to the Lakehills Area Library and indicate on the memo line that it is for Ancestry.
The director reminds us that the free WiFi is still available in the parking lot. If someone needs a computer, one of the staff can bring a laptop out to the table by the front door to use.
The staff is still there to take care of copying, printing, faxing and notarizing inside or at the door. Library card holders can reserve books and DVDs online at the website, or by phone, and pick them up at the library inside or at the door. Returned items may be placed in the book return bin outside. Patrons can call with requests for information, items and services. By calling the library, a newcomer can be given a library card.
Library cards are free and borrowing books and DVDs cost nothing. Printing and copying cost 15 cents a page and faxing costs $1 a page. Director Dianna Landes is a Notary and can notarize documents for $4.
The library’s hours are Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is located at 7200 FM 1283 and the phone number is 830-510-2777. The email address is lakehillslibrary@gmail.com. Their website is lakehillslibrary.org.
