Bandera Bulldog coaches and players are following UIL guidelines for practices. Facial coverings, social distancing, no shared water and disinfecting footballs after touches is becoming habit, even in the first week of practices for 1A-4A schools in the state. Larger 5A and 6A schools can't start practices until Sept. 7.

Local area student-athletes and coaches got back to a sense of normality this week as Bandera High School started official practices on Monday and Tuesday.

Cross-Country

Coach Brooke Ashcraft and the Lady Bulldogs are looking to return to the state championship hunt this season.
They will open the season on Aug. 15 at the Medina XC Relay, a one off type of competition, followed by a regular meet in Comfort on Aug. 22.
The rest of the season will consist of seven races with two events in Bandera, the first on Sept. 12 and then Reunion Weekend on Oct. 3.

Football
Looking to improve on their best season in years, the  Bulldogs took to the practice field late Monday afternoon but didn’t get much work in due to a lightning delay.
After two scrimmages, the season will open on August 28 against Poteet at home.
Word from Cotulla is the Sept. 4 date against the Bulldogs has been cancelled.
"We are just so excited to be able to get out of the house and start coaching these kids. We are blessed that the UIL has given us this opportunity and at least a chance to play. Our priority right now is the safety of our guys, thats why you see us keeping distance, the masks, spraying everything off, we feel like we are giving the kids a safe environment. Football wise, I am excited about the guys we have coming back and we have some young guys that are going to step up and really help this program.Yesterday was just another example of facing ‘Diversity 2020.’ We ended up coming out late on the first day because of the weather but we still got in a pretty good, all be it short, practice," Head Coach Joel Fontenot-Amedee said.

Fall Tennis
Coach Ginger Frye and her charges waited until Tuesday to start practices and have added another date to their calendar to extend the season to six matches.
Play will open on Sept. 3 at Uvalde and will be followed by matches at Boerne, Canyon Lake, Fredericksburg at Ingram Tom Moore, at Wimberley then close the season against Comal Davenport.

Volleyball
Approximately 60 volleyball hopefuls showed up for the first day of two a day practices for the Lady Bulldogs.
Practices will continue for the rest of the week in preparation for their first two scrimmages, Friday at Navarro and Saturday at Centerpoint.
The Lady Bulldogs’ home debut will be Tuesday, Aug. 18 against Hondo.
