Women's Equality Day: Celebrating the 100th anniversary of Women's Right to Vote & the Women of the Hill Country
The League of Women Voters-Hill Country Texas invites all to a Celebration of Women's Equality Day on Wednesday, Aug. 26. Via Zoom, the meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. with a meet and greet time, and the main program begins at 6 p.m. A video presentation of "100+ Women of the Hill Country" will premier. The speaker for the evening, Dr. Jeannette Cockroft from Schreiner University, will provide an update on the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).
Women's Equality Day celebrates the annual date established by Congress to commemorate the passage of the 19th Amendment, which enshrined women's right to vote in the U.S. Constitution. In 2020, Aug. 26 signifies the 100th anniversary of the signing of the 19th Amendment into law. This unprecedented year deserves a special meeting.
To kick off the recognition of this centennial event, a video featuring over 100 women who live in five Hill Country counties has been produced. The League honors these awe-inspiring and extraordinary women and the quiet, steady work they do to enrich our communities. The annual event concludes with a talk by Dr. Cockroft on the history and current status of the Equal Rights Amendment.
