Bulldogs host Mustangs in scrimmage
By Chris Darus

The Natalia Mustangs came to Bandera to take on the Bulldogs Thursday evening at Bulldog Stadium.
In the Freshman scrimmage, the Bulldogs gave a pretty fair account of themselves, going blow for blow against the Mustangs even though they had a few upperclassmen on the field.
Both teams had extended drives in the 45 minute contest to go with a few turnovers and both found out what needs work to open the season next week.
In the varsity scrimmage, teams swapped off on both sides of the ball, going 15 plays for the “Ones” and the "Twos" had 10 plays with both getting two rounds.
Bandera did a good job keeping Natalia out of the end zone for most of the early session and the Bulldogs got close, but didn't hit paydirt either.
Natalia did manage to get into the end zone once on a short slant just before the start of the running quarters.
The teams opened the two 15-minute running quarters to simulate game conditions with Bandera’s offense taking the field first.
The Bulldogs started slow, going three and out and the Mustangs, opening with an up tempo offense, scored on a 30 yard slant for the only score in the first.
There was a single score in the second quarter when
Natalia scored on a seven-yard rush up the middle just 28 seconds into the quarter.
Scrimmages are a tool to show what needs work and Bandera will take advantage of that to prepare for the Poteet Aggies in their season opener this Friday.
The Bulldogs know what needs to improve and know they have a ways to go to get to the level that is needed to compete for a district title and the playoffs, but no doubt, they will get there.
As there are no stats or rosters in a scrimmage, please view the photo gallery below.
