Bandera Cross-Country in near mid-season form

The Bandera Prophet

Even though it was the first event of the season for some teams, the Bandera cross-country teams were in mid-season form, finishing first in the varsity girls and third in the varsity boys events in Saturday’s event at Bandera City Park.
Following UIL CoVid-19 guidelines, teams were limited to just 10 competitors per event, resulting in much smaller fields than usual with 51 runners in the girls and 46 in the boys varsity divisions.
The varsity Lady Bulldogs took five of the first 15 spots with Hannah Edwards, Raelynn Butler and Morgan Cole taking three of the top four spots. Only Pleasanton's Caithlyn Nieschwitz kept Bandera from sweeping the podium. Trinity Butler and Makayla Gonzales were the other points scorers for Bandera and Danielle Gonzales and Gracie Bankston finished in the top 22 to help the team’s strong showing.
The JV girls took the hint from the varsity team and also won their division, edging out Boerne by nine points, 37-46. Bandera had four in the top ten spots and all seven runners were in the top 13.
The Lady Bulldogs were led by Sophie Hartman, Ashley Grodman, Carlye Niccum and Ashley Brown in the top ten spots with Madelyn Garza, Riley Smith and Calie Tripp in the 11th- 13th spots.
The varsity Bulldogs had a decent outing, finishing in third, just four points behind Boerne with three runners in the top 15. Logan Dybowski set a personal record (PR) 32 seconds faster than his previous best while finishing fourth. Ethan Brown picked up a PR by 10 seconds, Josh Short, Braden Cox and Jacob Hass, all found a full minute to set their new PRs.
Others running for Bandera were, Donovan Brown in his ever 5K race, setting a PR and a benchmark to shoot for and Sam Nimmrichter.
Jesus Rodriquez, Cody Jureczki and Hudson Jackson also ran in the event.
In JV boys action, Bandera’s, Mariano Casas was also in his first 5K race and did well, finishing in sixth to lead the team with and Albert Robinson had a top 20 finish in 18th place. Kyle Moore, Sage Wiltse and Josh Nimmrichter were the other points scorers for the team.
Running on, but not counting for team points were Cameron Cavin and Miles McGroty..
