Cruisin’ the East End
Serving Pipe Creek, Lakehills and Mico

By Vicki L. George
The Bandera Prophet

The Cajun Festival has been canceled, due to the CoVid-19 situation. However, the wonderful Cajun cooks do not want us to miss out on the delicious cuisine. Therefore, the ladies have been cooking up a storm and make their delicacies available for purchase now.
You can buy a taste of the Cajun Festival with crawfish étouffée, jambalaya, meat pies, crawfish pies, gumbo and bread pudding with whiskey sauce. You can buy frozen or ready-to-bake at the Cutaway Salon in Lakehills, located at 9650 FM 1283. Call 830-460-0600 or 210-887-5505 to check availability.
The étouffée will serve two people for $12; the jambalaya will also serve two for $9; a quart of gumbo sells for $10; meat pies are six for $15; crawfish pies are four for $18; and bread pudding costs $20 for large, $10 for medium, and $6 for small servings.
The Cajun Festival and the food offered are the main fundraising for the Lakehills Civic Center. Located at 11225 PR 37 in Lakehills, it is the hub of activities for the community and focuses on senior citizens and the kiddos.

COCONUT COVE CRUISE IN will take place Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Coconut Bar & Grill, from 4 - 7 p.m. Located at 11409 PR 37 in Lakehills, the show welcomes all kinds of classic cars. Space is limited so call to reserve your spot 830-612-1038. The show is free and the public is welcome.

NEW LIFE RESALE, the thrift shop that supports the Pipe Creek Christian School, is having a sale through Saturday, Sept. 19. Located at 1990 FM 1283, they offer 75 per cent off on books, games, toys, pictures and frames. They have 50 per cent off for furniture; 40 per cent off of kitchen items, and 30 per cent off anything you can wear.
While enjoying those bargains, you can buy a raffle ticket for a cute 70-inch-by-70-inch reversible quilt and matching pillow. Tickets are only $5 each and only 75 tickets will be sold. This would make a perfect gift for a child.

LAKEHILLS CIVIC CENTER will host a representative from HEB Pharmacy to give free flu shots on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 1 p.m. All are welcome and masks are required, as are your insurance cards. They will check your temperature when you arrive. The Center is located at 11225 PR 37 in Lakehills.

LAKEHILLS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, located at 150 Ave. J in Lakehills, offers a free meal on Mondays, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. While donations are always welcome, there is no charge for the food. To comply with CoVid-19 guidelines, the meal will be handed out curbside, first come, first served, outside the fellowship hall.

FAMILY HOME GARDEN PROJECT, hosted by Lakehills Civic Center board member Henry Wolanski, helps people raise their own food. He has a live chat every Saturday at 10 a.m. for gardeners and aspiring gardeners. Check in at the website: familyhomegarden.weebly.com.
