LAKEHILLS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, located at 150 Ave. J in Lakehills, is hosting the annual Chicken Barbecue Dinner on Sunday, October 4, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The plates include one-half chicken, sides, and dessert, for $12 each. Whole chickens only, with no sides, will be available for $11. To comply with Covid-19 guidelines, the meals will be drive-through only, first come, first served, outside the fellowship hall.
This event is put on by the United Methodist Men and all of the proceeds will benefit Christmas gifts for our community children.
The PIPE CREEK VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT will host their annual Fall Barbecue on Sunday, October 11, starting at 11 a.m. Located at 1331 FM 1283, the plates will include brisket and/or sausage, with all the sides. All will be packaged for carry-out, but tables are also provided and seating will follow Covid guidelines. Desserts will also be available for purchase.
Raffle tickets are $5 each or five for $20; first prize is a Mossberg Patriot Predator rifle, including high rings and a scope. Second prize is an automatic deer feeder. There are many other prizes, including HEB gift cards.
The fire department thanks Bandera Electric Cooperative for their generous sponsorship.

Even though the CAJUN FESTIVAL has been canceled, the talented Cajun cooks do not want us to miss out on the delicious cuisine. They have been cooking up a storm and make their delicacies available for purchase now.
You can buy a taste of the Cajun Festival with Crawfish Étouffée, Jambalaya, Meat Pies, Crawfish Pies, Gumbo, and Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce. You can buy frozen or ready-to-bake at the Cutaway Salon in Lakehills, located at 9650 FM 1283. Call 830-460-0600 or 210-887-5505 to check availability.
The Étouffée will serve two people for $12; the Jambalaya will also serve two for $9; a quart of Gumbo sells for $10; Meat Pies are six for $15; Crawfish Pies are four for $18; and Bread Pudding costs $20 for large, $10 for medium, and $6 for small servings.
The Cajun Festival and the food offered are the main fundraising for the Lakehills Civic Center. Located at 11,225 PR 37 in Lakehills, it is the hub of activities for the community and focuses on senior citizens and the kiddos.
FAMILY HOME GARDEN PROJECT, hosted by Lakehills Civic Center board member Henry Wolanski, helps people raise their own food. He has a live chat every Saturday at 10 a.m. for gardeners and aspiring gardeners. Check in at the website: familyhomegarden.weebly.com.
