The annual Halloween Trick-or-Treat is on! The library will hand out candy in a safe and socially distant manner on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 5 - 7:30 p.m. They ask area groups, businesses, and community members to volunteer to help give the kids the best Halloween experience ever. They also need donations of individually wrapped candy. Since they usually have about 200 kiddos, they need a lot of candy and it can be dropped off at the library from now to Halloween.
As part of Hill Country Night Sky Month in October, the library offers a special rock painting kit to send home for the kids. The rocks can be hidden all over the community for people to find and as a reminder to keep your lights low or off and use shielded lights when possible to preserve our night skies.
You can also pick up your application for the quilt block contest sponsored by Bandera County Friends of the Night Sky at the library.
The Preschool Storytime Program has started. Director Dianna Landes will read to the youngsters virtually through YouTube and craft kits may be picked up by parents at the library each week. The crafts are designed to meet preschool learning requirements with an emphasis on letters, numbers, reading and writing. Parents can register at lakehillslibrary@gmail.com or call the library at 830-751-2777.
The library is hiring a part-time position. Duties include helping patrons find and borrow materials, shelving books, assisting patrons on the computers, helping patrons with office services, and setting up displays. Strong customer service skills and technology experience is required. The position is 20 hours a week, with Saturdays mandatory. Pay is $8-$10 per hour. You can pick up an application at the library.
All services are available including books, movies, audio, printing, faxing, notary, and scanning. Also, hundreds of paperback and hardcover books, and DVDs, are available for purchase.
Landes reminds patrons who are uncomfortable coming inside that all services are available at the door. The free WiFi is always available in the parking lot.
The library’s hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and until 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Masks are required, as is social distancing. It is located at 7200 FM 1283 and the phone number is 830-510-2777. The email address is lakehillslibrary@gmail.com. Their website is lakehillslibrary.org
