The Big Election is looming

Early voting in this hotly contested presidential election year will begin Tuesday, Oct. 13. With the extra week’s extension mandated by Governor Abbott, it will continue until Friday, Oct. 30. It will be weekdays only, Mondays through Fridays, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day.
However, for those who have problems getting to the polls by closing time, or who wish to vote on the way to work, the county will hold extended hours on Tuesdays, Oct. 20 and Oct. 27, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
There are three locations for early voting and voters who live in Bandera County may cast their ballots at any of them during early voting. They are Lakehills Area Library, 7200 FM 1283, Lakehills; Medina Annex, 161 E. Parker St., Medina; and Ray Mauer Annex, 403 12th St., Bandera.
Those who are ill or who will be out of town may vote by mail. Those who wish to do so must submit a request for a ballot by noon on Friday, Oct. 23. Go online to https://webservices.sos.state.tx.us/forms/5-15f.pdf to apply for an application to vote by mail.
After receiving the ballot and voting, the ballot can be mailed to Bandera County Elections Office, 403 12th St., Bandera, TX 78003 and it must arrive by Nov. 3.
If the voter decides to hand deliver their mail-in ballot, he must take it to the Ray Mauer Annex on election day or to any early voting location during early voting. It must be in the ballot envelop and properly signed. The voter must present a valid ID and sign the roster. Only the voter can hand deliver his own ballot — no one else can do it for him.
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. That day, voters must vote in their own precincts. The precinct information can be found on the Voter Registration Card. There are 10 precincts in Bandera County.
This year voters will not be able to vote straight party. However, the candidates’ parties are listed by their names on the ballots and voters must go through the whole list. There are no propositions to consider, except for school taxes in precincts 305 MISD, 306 MISD, 407 MISD, and 408 MISD.
This is an important election and all eligible citizens are urged to vote.
