Last week, Governor Greg Abbott announced that bars across the state would be allowed to open by today, as long as county judges file a request. County Judge Richard Evans yesterday said he applied with TABC (Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission), and is awaiting a response.
In his latest Executive Order No. GA-32, Abbott stipulated that bars may offer on-premises services up to 50 percent of total occupancy.
Patrons are required to gather in groups of six people or fewer, and must maintain social distancing.
“Where applicable, this 50 percent occupancy limit applies only indoors,” the order states. “The limit does not apply to outdoor areas, events or establishments, although social distancing and other protocols must be followed.”
Bars are still allowed to offer drive-thru, pickup or delivery options.
“TABC will respond hopefully today or tomorrow,” Evans said. “You never know with a state agency.”
