BEC winter time-based usage rates take effect
Contributed
Bandera Electric Cooperative’s winter Time-Based Usage rates took effect Oct. 1. This optional program provides different energy rates based on the season and time of day energy is used. It more accurately reflects the actual cost of energy.
BEC has an exceptionally low, flat electric rate of $0.067 per kilowatt-hour, compared to the average state rate of $0.1182 per kWh and the average national rate of $0.1326 per kWh. However, members who sign up for BEC’s TBU plan can reduce their monthly electric bill even further by adjusting their energy use to off-peak times.
TBU rates have specific rates for designated time periods which reflects the volatility of the electric energy market. During the winter season, the TBU normal rate is $0.0592 per kWh during 7:01 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7:01 p.m. to 11 p.m. Similarly, the TBU economy rate is $0.048 per kWh from 11:01 p.m. to 7 a.m. To see the greatest savings, members should shift as much energy use to the economy time. Ideally, members should avoid the peak time period from 5:01 p.m. to 7 p.m.
“This voluntary program gives members the power to reduce their energy bill,” BEC Chief Financial Officer Becky Bradburn said. “In addition, TBU not only helps members save money, it also keeps electric rates low for the whole cooperative by reducing overall demand.”
TBU winter rates run through May 31 and summer rates run from June 1 to Sept. 30. To learn more about TBU plans, please visit BanderaElectric.com/TBU or call 866-226-3372 to speak to a Member Relations Representative.
