The saying, "A journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step,” is appropriate for both of Bandera's varsity Cross-Country teams as they qualified for the Region IV Meet in Corpus Christi on Nov. 10, at the District 28-4A meet held in Bandera City Park last week.
A thousand miles is a lot less than both squads have racked up this season and the results speak for themselves with the girls taking team gold and the boys winning silver.
"We are excited! It's awesome when you have a program that sets the bar high enough that they are trying to podium again at the state level. Coach (Brooke) Ashcraft's girls program is phenomenal and Coach Sam Farrell is doing a great job coming in and  setting a new standard for the boys program," Bandera ISD Athletic Director Joel Fontenot-Amedee said.
