Going into the last game of district and the season, Pearsall and Bandera were both looking for a win on the field. Pearsall had a win on their record but it was a forfeit. Depending on how things went, one of them would be the fourth seeded team for the district standings and make the playoffs.
Bandera started out with a steady diet of rushes and a few attempted passes to move the ball into field goal range and with 8:05 left in the first, Blaise Salazar booted a 36 yard FG to make it 3-0.
Pearsall answered just a few minutes later on a 28 yard rush with 3:34 left and a good PAT made it 7-3.
Bandera's defense came up big three times in the second quarter with two interceptions, one by Jesse Cardenas and the other by Will Paul and a fumble recovery, to end drives by the Mavericks and keep the score close.
The Bulldogs attempted a field goal with under 30 seconds left in the first half, but it went wide left and the 7-3 score would remain as the teams hit the locker rooms at the half.
The second half would see both teams open it up on the offensive side of the ball.
Pearsall struck first with a 23 yard rush with 9:11 left in the third and a good kick made it 14-3.
Bandera fought back and scored three minutes later on a 31 yard catch and run by Brandon Miller as he got behind the Pearsall defense and Salazar's PAT was good to make it 14-10.
Pearsall intercepted a Bandera pass late in the third to keep the Bulldogs at bay and then repeats that again with a pick six and a good kick to make it 21-10.
Bandera refused to roll over and the Moore to Miller connection scored again, this one a 61 yard pass, Bandera goes for two on the conversion, but pass is behind the receiver and it falls incomplete making it 21-16.
Bandera's defense keeps the Mavericks out of the endzone, so the Mavericks hit a 15 yard FG with 5:04 left to make it 24-16.
Bandera gives it a good shot and Moore runs it 34 yards for a score and with the score 24-22, the Bulldogs have to go for two points on the conversion.
The attempt is thwarted by a Pearsall defender intercepting the halfback pass and the Bulldogs fate is sealed.
An attempted onsides kick doesn't go Bandera's way and time runs out to end the game, 24-22, and the Bulldogs tough season.
Bandera did have their best offensive game of the season against Pearsall gaining 322 yards for the game, 177 passing and 142 on the ground.
