The latest at the Bandera Library
By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director
This holiday season, the Bandera Library has put up a Christmas tree with special ornaments. Nestled among the branches and lights are red and white papers representing a donation to the Library’s Adopt-a-Book program. As many of you know, the library has books that are up for adoption throughout the year, but the Christmas book adoptions are a little different. Instead of the grumpy old library director saying what titles are available to adopt, you tell the director what book or kinds of books you would like for the library to add to the collection. Come by and get a book adoption ornament today!
The library would like to extend a warm Texas welcome to the returning Winter Texans. Winter Texans can get a season pass to the library for $20 per household. This gives you access to the thousands of books, DVDs, magazines, puzzles and all the digital content for the duration of your stay. Before you head out on the road again, be sure and stop by the Book Nook for a few books to take along the ride. All the books are by donation and include paperbacks, hardbacks, fiction and non-fiction.
Programs this week include the Saturday morning online meet up of the Bandera Dungeons and Dragons group. All ages and experience levels are welcome. Contact [email protected] to join in the adventure. Don’t forget, the library offers online meeting rooms. Call 830-796-4213 to get information on how to sign up.
New titles this week include “Take it Back” by Kia Abdullah. London’s brightest legal mind, Zara Kaleel, has built a brilliant career far exceeding the high expectations placed on her by her family. But all that success has come at a steep cost. Haunted by her own personal demons, Kaleel decides to leave her law practice and takes a job at a center for victims of sexual assault. A teenage girl comes to Kaleel for help. Born with facial deformities and with zero allies, Jodie has accused four boys of attacking her. While everyone else in her life seems to think Jodie is lying, Zara believes her and is determined to help her get justice. In their tight-knit community, Jodie’s case becomes trial of the year with a conclusion that will shock everyone, including the reader.
Saturday hours are back! The library will be open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for browsing, public access computers and business services. The library is open Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Masks are required while here. Appointments are required for computer use and for notary services.
Happy tales, y’all.
