The first candle of Hanukkah is lit at dark on Dec. 10, and it continues for seven more nights. When things seem darkest, we light the lights to chase away the darkness. Hanukkah is about faith and hope.
We wish a joyful Hanukkah to all our Jewish friends.
LAKEHILLS CIVIC CENTER, 11225 PR 37, will host “Christmas Under the Stars” outdoor Christmas event on Saturday, Dec. 19, from 5 - 8 p.m. Walk through Bethlehem, enjoy Santa, the Christmas tree, and refreshments. The public is invited and it is Covid compliant, with masks required. There will be gifts for kiddos 12 years and younger.
LAKEHILLS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH will host “A Community Christmas” on Sunday, Dec. 13, from 2:30 - 7 p.m., at the church, 150 Ave. J in Lakehills. Sponsored by Hill Country Samaritans & Friends, it is a craft bazaar and the admission is free. For adults and youth, tables are $10 each or bring your own. Homemade arts and crafts are welcome. To register, or for more information, call 920-216-9589 or go to hillcountrysamaritans.org.
There will be choir performances at 3:30 and 5 p.m. by Community Youth & Adults.
ALAMO RC&D announces 2021 requirements. Due to Covid, the Senior Assistance Program application form will need to be completed online. In order to continue to participate in 2021, each senior household will need to complete our online application on our web page at alamorcd.org. It can be completed on phone, tablet or computer. If you have trouble, text 210-548-9248 and Alma will call you back to walk you through it.
The Food Bank distribution will be held at Mansfield Park on Monday, Dec. 14, beginning at 11 a.m. For more information about the Food Bank distributions, call the Silver Sage at 830-796-4969.
AMERICAN LEGION POST 410, 147 Legion Dr. in Lakehills, is hosting their annual Christmas Dinner on Saturday, Dec. 19, starting at noon. It is a free turkey dinner and Covid compliant; there will no serving inside but it will be drive-through, as it was for the Fourth of July. While the meal is free, donations are always welcome. The public is invited.
The post is open to the public, from 3 p.m., Fridays through Wednesdays. They serve meals every Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m. Each week offers a different dish, with sides and beverage for $8 a plate. Desserts are available for a small amount and diners may eat in or take out. For more information, call the post’s new number: 830-612-1034.
The Post will host their Adopt-A-Highway clean-up on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 7:30 a.m. Those who wish to help will meet at the corner of FM 1283 and PR 37, at the Chevron station.
CHRISTIAN WOMENS JOB CORPS is taking applications for the next class session, beginning Tuesday, Jan. 5. The classes are free and run Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week for 12 weeks. Lunch and books are provided. Participants must be over 18 and committed to growth. For more information, call 830-326-1457.

On Dec. 9, Medina Lake is at 43.0 per cent capacity. The lake level is 1033.50 feet, which is down 30.70 feet.
The Medina River has a flow of 5.57 cfs in Bandera, standing 3.22 feet deep at the gage.
