Bulldog Basketball Report
By Bulldog Varsity Head Coach Brady Keane
Varsity
After defeating Ingram Tuesday night, the Bandera varsity boys basketball team split its other two games of the week with a loss at Medina Valley on Friday and an exciting victory over Comfort at home on Saturday.
We were originally scheduled to travel to play 14th ranked Blanco on Friday night before a last-minute schedule change forced us to travel to 5A Medina Valley to play the Panthers instead.
We got off to a slow start and struggled to recover from a low-scoring first quarter that had the Bulldogs fighting from behind from start to finish.
A third quarter surge brought the game within striking distance before Medina Valley pulled away in the fourth to secure the win.

Comfort
Rather than dwelling on the previous loss heading into Saturday’s game, the Bulldogs responded by playing our best overall game of the season against Comfort.
A white-hot second quarter effort saw Bandera outscore Comfort, 30-8, and the Bulldogs took a 38-21 lead into halftime.
Comfort put together a late run in the fourth quarter to close the gap to just 2 points with less than a minute to go before a handful of clutch scores from Tyler Moore and Trace Decker helped Bandera hold on for the win.
Ryan Perez scored a game-high 12 points on 3 for 5 shooting from three-point range to lead Bulldog scorers.
I was really proud of the way our seniors took ownership on Saturday and helped push our team to the best overall game we’ve played this year. We had a ton of energy on the court and on the bench, and that translated to a great defensive performance. We have to continue to play with that type of energy and enthusiasm as we continue to prepare for district play next month.
The win moved the Bulldogs back to 5-5 on the season and the team will be back in action Tuesday night against Devine at 7:30 p.m. at Bandera Middle School.
We will then travel to Lampasas on Friday and to Johnson City on Tuesday Dec. 22.

JV
Much like the varsity, the JV Bulldogs defeated Ingram on Tuesday night, struggled against a red-hot Medina Valley team on Friday and picked up a big win over Comfort on Saturday.
Medina Valley opened the first quarter Friday night with an impressive shooting performance from behind the three-point line to build a lead the Bulldogs had trouble overcoming.
Saturday proved to be a much different game on both ends of the court, as Bandera completely controlled the game from start to finish against Comfort.
The Bulldogs held the Bobcats to just 13 points through the first half while taking a 29-13 lead into the break before extending that lead with another dominant effort in the final two quarters. The final score was 67-32 in favor of Bandera with 10 different players contributing on the scoreboard, led by Noah Barnett who finished with a game-high 17 points.
Gavin Ortiz had 9, Brice Clemens, Braden Cox and Salvador Enriquez scored 8 each, Coleton Trenkelbach had 6, Kyle Morgan had 4, Jack Pate scored 3 and Jase Chelin and Cole Peace had 2 points each.
The win brought the JV Bulldogs’ record to 5-4 on the season with two games on the schedule for this week. Bandera will host Devine on Tuesday before traveling to Lampasas on Friday.
Freshmen
The freshmen Bulldogs were off on Tuesday night and struggled to get into a rhythm on either end of the court against Medina Valley Friday night, but responded in a big way with an impressive team win over Comfort at home on Saturday.
The Bobcats jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter, but it was all Bandera from there. Comfort put together a comeback attempt in the fourth, but it was too little too late as the Bandera freshmen held on for a 61-48 win.
Ten players contributed on the scoreboard in the win, led by Hank Pate’s 16 point effort that featured four three-pointers.
The freshmen Bulldogs move to 5-4 on the season with the win over Comfort and are currently scheduled to host Devine on Tuesday before traveling to Lampasas on Friday.
Bandera stats:
Scoring: H. Pate, 16, Jorge Cabasos, 12, Isaac Segura, 9, Corben Gonzales, 8, Alex Dirck, 4, Tim Danour, 3, Hudson Jackson, 3, Cale Barnett, 2, Aydin De La Cruz, 2, Adan Ramos, 2
