Girls
Lady Bulldog soccer scored two early goals on their way to a 9-1 win over Somerset Wednesday night.
Two seniors were honored before the game and both played well with Halle Rios scoring five goals and Courtney Dowda recording eight steals on Senior Night.
Also scoring for Bandera were, Hannah Edwards, Jetta Martinez, Rihanna Garza and Mallorie Powell with goalie, Jazmine Thane making nine saves on 10 shots.
Coach Keith Kuenzel cited the play of Lauren Benedict, Yadi Mendoza, Bietzel Gonzalez, Jayden Mason, Ashlyn Brown, Izabel Kennedy and Morgan Cole as playing well on the defensive end of the pitch to limit the Somerset scoring oppertunitiesBandera will be busy for the next week with away games at S.A. Cole today and at Uvalde on Tuesday before hosting YWLA on Wednesday.
Boys
Bulldog varsity soccer is now underway after early season cancellations.
Bandera dominated the Poteet Aggies in a 10-0 win early last week.
Five Bulldogs found the back of the opponents net with Felix Diaz scoring a hat trick (3 goals) and teammates Brian Gonzales and Miles Short adding two goals each. Blaise Salazar and Joshua Short each scored a goal and Poteet scored an own goal late in the game to make it 10-0.
Bulldog netminder, Bailey Cox made three saves to get the shutout.
The Bulldogs opened play in their first tournament of the season at Canyon Lake Thursday.
Bandera started the tourney with a 4-3 decision over Burnet's Bulldogs. Salazar and Short both scored doubles in the Burnet match.
Day two saw Bandera taking on the host team and falling in a 2-1 decision. Donovan Brown scored the Bulldog's goal on an assist from Felix Diaz.
Bandera took on Gonzales in their final match of the tourney. Salazar scored about 20 minutes in to give Bandera a 1-0 lead, but the Apaches scored twice, once in the final 10 minutes, to hand Bandera another 2-1 setback.
"We played well last week, with players getting lots of real time experience. The season is early and we are looking forward to a successful season," coach Westley Miller said.
Uvalde
The Bulldogs varsity squad hosted Uvalde
Tuesday night on a cold and wet, basically nasty evening, just perfect for a soccer match, with Bandera taking the match by a 2-1 talley.
Bandera's Joshua Short scored with assists from Blaise Salazar and Bryan Gonzales.
Defenders, Wilber Diaz, Sam Nimmrichter, Rodrigo Gutierrez-Gonzales, Logan Sadler, Trent Johnston, Isaiah Moreno and Logan Sadler all played well on the back end, according to coach Westley Miller. Their play allowed Bulldog goalie, Bailey Cox, to see only six shots on net.
Uvalde scored their only goal on a rebound from a free kick.
Bandera moves to 3-2 on the season with Fox Tech visiting Bandera this evening. Match time is 6:30 p.m.
