More than 2,100 people were in line this week to receive food from the San Antonio Food Bank and the Silver Sage Community Center, Art Crawford, executive director of the Silver Sage, told Bandera County commissioners today.
Yesterday, Crawford and an army of volunteers helped distribute food to 1,500 people at Mansfield Park; on Tuesday, food was given to more than 400 people in Lakehills and 280 in Medina. In partnership with The Emergency Food Assistance Program of the Texas Department of Agriculture, future Pop Up Food Distributions will take place in Lakehills and Medina the fourth Tuesday of every month, and in Bandera every fourth Wednesday, through June.
Anyone who has been affected in any way by Covid-19, falls within certain income guidelines, or receives SNAP, TANF, SSI, NSLP or Medicaid will qualify.
In addition, Crawford said 9,586 hot meals were delivered in December through the Meals on Wheels program. He said he expects more than 10,000 meals will be delivered this month.
