The latest at the Bandera Library

By Stefania Trimboli-Wright

Love is in the air at Bandera Public Library! Cutout hearts are strung up and the kids have made their Valentine’s Day craft for their loved ones. The dust is settling in Bandera after Mardi Gras weekend as we prepare for a more intimate weekend celebration with those close to us.
A reminder the Library will be closed for Presidents’ Day on Monday, Feb. 15 with regular hours resuming on Tuesday.
New titles out this week:
Paris Library is set in pre-WWII Paris at the renowned American Library. When the Nazi’s march in, young Odile risks losing everything she holds dear, including the library. Together with her fellow brace librarians, Odile joins the Resistance with the best weapons she has: books. Jump ahead to Montana in 1983 with Lily, a young teenager looking for adventure in her small-town. A solitary, elderly neighbor piques her interest and they soon become friends. As Lily discovers more about her neighbor’s mysterious past, she finds they share a love of many things, never suspecting that a dark secret from the past connects them.
Mackenzie Dienes seems to have it all – a beautiful home, close friends and a successful career as an elite winemaker with the family winery. There is just one problem – it’s not her family, it’s her husbands. Everything in her life is tied to him – his mother is the closest thing she has had to a mom, his sister is her best friends, their home is on the family compound. So when she and her husband admit their marriage is falling apart, she sees herself on the brink of losing her entire life. Her job, her home, her friends, and worst – her family. She can stay and continue to work at the winery, and be friends – as an employee, nothing more. On the other hand, she can surrender every piece of her heart for the chance to build her own legacy. Can she dare let go on the life she thought she wanted? She might discover something even more beautiful waiting on the other side in the Vineyard at Painted Moon.
In his timely, speculative thought experiment author, Neal Shusterman explores themes in perspective, privilege, and identity in his new book, Game Changer. After a hit on the football field, Ash’s life suddenly doesn’t look quite like he remembers it. Impossible as it may seem, he’s been hit into another dimension and keeps bouncing through worlds that are almost like his own. The changes start small, but they quickly spiral out of control as Ash slides into universe where he has everything he’s ever wanted, universes where society is stuck in the past, universes where he finds himself looking at life through entirely different eyes. And if he isn’t careful, the world he’s learning to see more clearly could blink out of existence.
