The Lakehills Library’s annual Fundraiser Dinner and Raffle is Saturday, Feb. 13, from 5 - 7 p.m. Tickets for the meal and the two raffle items are on sale now in the library.
Boyle’s True Value in Bandera and Lakehills has generously donated the first raffle item, which is a Smith & Wesson M&P 15 Sport II 5.56 rifle, valued at $799. All 400 tickets for the rifle have been sold.
The second raffle item is a $500 Visa gift card. Tickets for the gift card are still available at $5 each or six for $25. The drawing for both prizes will be held during the dinner and winners will be called afterward. The winner can pick up the Visa card at the library. All the funds will benefit our library.
The dinner will be held at the Lakehills Civic Center and, to be Covid compliant, will be drive through only. Meal tickets are $10 each and may be purchased in the library or on site. With your ticket you will be able to pick up a generous helping of Gerry’s Famous Chicken Spaghetti, with salad, breadstick, and dessert.
All the funds raised will benefit the library and, therefore, our whole community.
The Preschool Storytime Program will continue. Director Dianna Landes reads to the youngsters virtually through YouTube and craft kits may be picked up by parents at the library each week. The crafts are free and designed to meet preschool learning requirements with an emphasis on letters, numbers, reading and writing. Parents can still register at [email protected] or call the library at 830-751-2777.
The library now has a Zoom book club on the second Wednesday of each month, at 1 p.m. This month the group will discuss Educated by Tara Westover. Contact the library right away to receive the link to join the discussion. All are welcome to participate.
Parents are encouraged to participate in the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. This is a free program to encourage parents to read to their children so the they are ready for kindergarten. Each child will record the books read and, after 100 books, the child is promoted to the “rainbow board” at the library. At 500 books, the child will receive a small prize and, at 1000 books, the child will get a bigger prize. Stop by the library to join the program.
Library cards are free and will allow free access to thousands of downloadable ebooks and audio books as well as online databases full of correct and helpful information on any subject imaginable.
All services are available including books, movies, audio, printing, faxing, notary and scanning. Also, hundreds of paperback and hardcover books, and DVDs, are available for purchase.
Landes reminds patrons who are uncomfortable coming inside that all services are available at the door. The free WiFi is always available in the parking lot.
The library’s hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and until 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In addition, they are now open on Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Masks are required, as is social distancing. It is located at 7200 FM 1283 and the phone number is 830-510-2777.
