Wind chill temperatures expected to hit below zero

Bandera County residents woke this morning to a wintry wonderland after more than four inches of snow fell last night. Many also woke to chilly homes, their electricity lost either because of rolling outages or line damage due to ice.
The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration reported very dangerous temperatures and wind chill values are expected tonight. Wind chill factors could range from 5 to negative 10 degrees Tuesday morning.
Although many local snow covered roads have cleared, they may still have icy patches and travel remains highly discouraged. Overnight lows tonight are expected to be in the single digits and a hard freeze warning is in effect.
“Without proper protection hypothermia could quickly set in,” NOAA cautions.
Another round of wintry precipitation and freezing rain is possible late Tuesday night to Wednesday morning, followed by a possible final round Wednesday night to Thursday morning.
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas has declared an Energy Emergency Alert Level 3, mandating rotating power outages in 30 to 45-minute increments.
“Energy conservation is critical. Rotating outages are underway to reduce demand on the electric system. Traffic lights and other infrastructure may be temporarily without power,” the EEA states.
BEC has asked residents to lower their thermostats to about 68 degrees to help maintain grid reliability. In the event of a power outage that does not seem to be part of a rolling outage, report it to 866-226-3372 or log onto your account at www.banderaelectric.com.
Bandera ISD has cancelled classes for Tuesday, and all Bandera County offices will be closed to the public. The Bandera Lowes Market temporary store hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. through Wednesday.
The Bandera City Hall will be closed until further notice. Water customers may call 830-328-9946 to report any water emergencies.
Forecast temperatures are as follows:
Tuesday: 35 high / 24 low
Wednesday: 48 high / 23 low
Thursday: 38 high / 14 low
