The BEAST does it again
The Bandera Academic Decathlon team named state champs, aim focus on nationals

For the third year in a row, and for four of the past five years, the Beast has become the Texas small school state champions. For the third year in a row, Bandera will represent Texas as the D4 team at national competition in April.
With an all-time high score of 45.184, the Bandera team earned 40 subject medals, six overall high scoring medals, and, once again, won the super quiz competition.
The team consists of Luke Bitzkie – team captain, Christian McKnelly, Megan Mize, Rebecca Ellingson, Rodrigo Gutierrez Gonzales, Sidney Timmons, Samuel Nimmrichter, Michelle Linson, Riley Longobardi and Laurel Morsi. We had three perfect scores in the essay competition.

Luke Bitzkie: Essay – Bronze, Art – Silver, Economics – Bronze, Literature – Gold, Mathematics – Gold, Music – Silver, and Social Science – Silver.
Christian McKnelly: Speech – Bronze, Essay – Gold (with a perfect score), Art – Gold, Economics – Gold, Literature – Gold, Music – Gold, and Social Science – Gold, and Science - Gold.
Rebecca Ellingson: Essay – Gold (with a perfect score), Art – Gold, Economics – Bronze, Literature – Gold, Mathematics – Silver, Music – Gold, and Social Science – Silver, and Science - Gold.
Rodrigo Gutierrez Gonzales: Speech – Gold (with a perfect score), Art – Silver, Economics – Silver, Literature – Gold, Music – Gold, and Social Science – Gold.

Additionally, students receive medals and scholarship money if they were among the top five individuals in state overall, within their category. These six individuals were among the top scorers.
