East End churches prepare for Easter and Passover

By Vicki L. George
The Bandera Prophet

Passover and Easter are fast approaching and this year they will occur in the same time frame. Passover is March 28, which begins at sundown the night before, and Easter is April 4. Their messages are connected. It is all about the Passover Lamb.
When Abraham was told to sacrifice his son, the boy asked his father where was the lamb for the sacrifice. His dad answered, “God will provide himself a lamb.” God did provide a lamb and the boy did not die. It was a shadow of things to come.
When God had Moses deliver the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, He told them to sacrifice a lamb and put its blood on the doorposts of their homes saying when He saw the blood of the lamb He would pass over them so they would not die. The Israelites obeyed and did not die. It was a shadow of things to come.
When it was time for the shadow to become reality, John the Baptist cried out when he saw Jesus, saying, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.” Later, the apostle Peter would proclaim, “… Christ, a Lamb without blemish.” Paul taught, “For Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed.” His blood on the doorposts of our hearts enables us to live.
This year Good Friday, the day Jesus was crucified, occurs during Passover week. Our Lamb has been sacrificed. We celebrate the third day, Easter, because our Lamb conquered death and gives us life.
We wish our Jewish friends a Happy Passover and our Christian friends a blessed Easter.
