Covid vaccine open to all Texans next week, Bandera County still working on Phase 1B

Beginning March 29, all Texans will be eligible to receive a Covid-19 vaccination. In Bandera County, emergency management will continue to prioritize people who fall in Phase 1B - essential workers including teachers, school district employees and anyone with qualifying health conditions - before they open vaccination clinics to the general public.
Emergency Management Coordinator Carey Reed said around 2,000 people are still on the list, though that doesn’t necessarily reflect how many people have yet to get the shot. Many residents, she said, have received their vaccines from their private physicians and at facilities outside of Bandera County.
“If [you] were able to get the vaccine elsewhere, please call the county to let us know,” Reed said, adding prior to the last clinic, many of the calls were made to people who were already vaccinated. “It does save me a phone call if you let me know. It would help.”
Unable to identify a date for the next clinic, Reed said because Bandera County is not a provider, it does not receive direct shipments from the state and relies instead on providers to share their stock.
According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, more than three million Texans are fully vaccinated and more than six million have received at least one dose.
The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District will open registration for 30,000 vaccine appointments at 7 p.m. today. The appointments will be scheduled from April 6 to May 1 at the Alamodome. People 50 years and older, and those with underlying health conditions will take priority.
Reed said those who wish to wait may call her office at 830-460-8299, and leave a message if no one answers. She also asked anyone who signed up with Bandera County or the Silver Sage and received the vaccine elsewhere to call to have their name removed. Further, Reed said anyone who registered with the Silver Sage may follow up with emergency management, as the lists have been combined and the county is now maintaining it.
