The Latest at the Bandera Library
By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director
The Bandera Library is celebrating poetry! April is dedicated to celebrating one of the oldest storytelling methods known to man. You can take part by submitting a poem to the library’s virtual Open Mic by April 24. We will feature your work online and in the library. Keep an eye on our Facebook page, we are posting a poem each morning.
Normally Tax Day is tomorrow, but with all the commotion of the last year, the IRS has extended the due date to June 15. Come by the library to print out your forms or to use one of the public access computers to complete your taxes. Feel free to bring your laptop here and use our free Wi-Fi to do them. The network is named Bandera Public Library and the top-secret password is Bandera!
Anne Hillerman has a new mystery out this week called Stargazer. A typical day in the life of an officer of the Navajo reservation police department. While serving a warrant, dealing with a herd of cattle stopping traffic and happening upon a crime scene, Officer Bernadette Manuelito gets a call from an old friend. Maya and Bernie had been close friends and roommates year ago, but Maya’s battles with addiction eventually pushed the two apart. Now, Maya’s brother has contacted Officer Manuelito to ask for her help in finding his sister. Maya has confessed to the murder of her husband, a well-respected astronomer. But the details of the case aren’t lining up. A deeper dive into the investigation leads Bernadette to a remote area of the Navajo reservation and right into a cold and calculating killer.
The Bandera Library is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7.
Check out our website www.banderacountylibrary.org for all up-to-date information. Masks are required while you are in the building.
Happy tales, y’all.
