Lakehills Area Library Leanings

By Vicki L. George
The Bandera Prophet

The Lakehills Area Library will host the Healthcare Paperwork Workshop in the library’s conference room on Thursday, May 20, at 10:30 a.m., and on Thursday, June 10, at 6:30 p.m. The class is offered by Alamo Hospice and it is free to all adults. Class participants will make an advance directive, a medical power of attorney and, if they wish, a Do Not Resuscitate order. When the class is over, they will have all their paperwork ready and signed. Class size is limited to 10 participants; if more sign up, the library will make a waiting list and schedule more classes. Masks and social distancing will be required. Call now to reserve your seat.
The library says a very special Thank You to the J. Frank Dobie Library Trust for its generous grant of $10,000 to purchase books for the library. This will cover one year of purchases and the library is very grateful.
The library has reinstated the Art in the Library program. The display case features wood carvings by local artist John Tucker. His works are available for purchase, which can be handled at the library desk.
The library is looking for collections to display in their glass enclosed case. If you would like to share your collection with the public, contact the library to arrange the time.
As part of the Art in the Library Program, the library is hosting the photographs of Delaney Morrison, a 17-year-old high school junior, who has close ties to Lakehills and Pipe Creek. She has exhibited her prize winning photos in our library before as a student. This is her first solo exhibition and will continue until June 5. All her pictures are framed and available for purchase.
The library’s next book sale is Saturday, June 1, and will continue the first Saturday of every month. The library offers books and DVDs for sale: Hardcover books are $1.50, paperbacks and children’s books are 50 cents, and DVDs are $1.50.
Summer reading will begin Monday, June 7 and continue until July 31. Each week the library will provide craft kits, with all supplies included, for ages 2-18 to take home and enjoy. The theme is Tails and Tales, focusing on a fairy tale or an animal. Parents and kids can pick up their crafts each week, while getting books to keep the youngsters reading. Register for a reading log, which will enable participants to win prizes.
The daytime book club now meets in person on the back porch, without masks. It meets the second Tuesday of each month at 1 p.m. On Tuesday, June 8, the book to be discussed is The Huntress by Katie Quinn.
The library is actively seeking representatives of our community to serve on the board. If interested, pick up an application at the desk.
The library’s hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Masks are required, as is social distancing. It is located at 7200 FM 1283 and the phone number is 830-510-2777. The email address is lakehillslibrary@gmail.com. Their website is lakehillslibrary.org.
