Texas Association of Counties Risk Control Consultant Larry Boccaccio presented the 2020 Safety Achievement Award to Bandera County commissioners. To qualify, Boccaccio said, a county must have a safety program or accident prevention plan that saves taxpayer dollars by minimizing worker compensation costs. Bandera County is one of 12 in the region to receive the award.

Commissioners approved the use of the courthouse lawn for the Bandera Honors Veterans celebration on Veteran’s Day.
Commander Susan Junker said this year, the Legion would place flags on the courthouse front lawn, as well as on veterans’ gravesites in the Bandera City, St. Stanislaus, Medina Oak Rest and West Prong Cemeteries.
Junker also said the Legion will resume the free community breakfast on June 12, from 8 a.m. to noon.
Resolution approved
Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution opposing wastewater discharge into the Sabinal River.
Young Life is proposing the construction of a youth camp wastewater treatment plant which would release 60,000 gallons of treated water per day into the Sabinal River. The Bandera Canyonlands Alliance has led the crusade against the proposal.
“I think we can go on record opposing the release of wastewater into any of our rivers,” Pct. 4 Commissioner Jordan Rutherford said. “We need to let them know we don’t want them polluting our rivers.”
County Judge Richard Evans said the county also approved a resolution supporting legislation during the last session regarding wastewater discharge and its effect on pristine waters.
The City of Bandera wastewater discharge is a grandfathered plant, Evans said, “but we don’t need any more.”
Email Update
The WiFi will be updated at Mansfield Park, expanding bandwidth to the county extension office and the RV park.
The county continues to work on resolving email and Internet issues. Commissioners approved $7,500 for the purchase and installation of three new servers to act as backup. County Auditor Darryl Sadler said only $4,500 is needed, however the difference will provide a slush fund in case more issues arise.
