Award winning local author launches second novel
By Vicki L. George
The Bandera Prophet
Joanne Easley is the proverbial “local gal who made good.” She lives in Medina and spends most of her time writing. Her first book, Sweet Jane, has been out over a year and has won several awards. Now she is launching her second book, “Just One Look,” which will be released later this month.
She has also been busy with book signings and selling advance copies. Her latest signing was in the Medina Community Library on June 5. It was well attended with over two dozen people. After Easley read a few short passages from her novel, she took questions from the audience. There was a lively discussion about her Medina writers group, the Medina Wordsmiths, and much interest in publishing. The information on writers’ pay was especially enlightening.
When the conversation slowed down, a line formed to purchase her newest work and Easley graciously signed copies for all who wished for her to sign.
Just One Look is about a girl named Dani, living in Chicago in 1965, who falls in love so young that no one takes her seriously. Her dreams for wedded bliss are cruelly shattered when the love of her life was killed in Viet Nam. Dani didn’t handle it well and ended up marrying the worst kind of guy. When tragedy struck, and she thought there wasn’t anything left, life took a turn that changed everything. It is a story of love and loss, grief and hope, and future dreams built on letting go.
Easley grew up in Chicago and began writing while in high school there. She dropped out of college to marry and later returned to finish. For a time she taught nursery school. During her mommy years, she stayed home with their two sons and studied writing, striving to hone her craft.
In 1994 Easley and her husband moved to Austin, where she studied nursing. The couple divorced in 2002. After graduating, she spent 10 years in nursing before retiring with her second husband, Chuck, and moving to Medina. They live on a small ranch just outside of town. Easley now devotes her time to writing and promoting her books.
Sweet Jane and Just One Look are available from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and from the publisher, Black Rose Writing. Just One Look will be out on June 24 and can be pre-ordered.
