EDC meeting highlights much planning needed

The June 24 EDC meeting was a mixed affair with money being granted, discussion of trying to get a full board of directors, planning for the future solar eclipse and the need for early Christmas light planning.
Board members approved $2,000 each to the American Legion post for Bandera Honors Veterans and to the Chamber of Commerce for Buckfest. The Chamber requested $4,000, however only $2,000 remained in EDC funding.
Both grants, passed unanimously and are to help offset promotional costs incurred for the events.
EDC Board President Jared Wilcox requested recommendations to fill the vacant position on the board and replace the two current members who wish to vacate their positions.
After some discussion, it was determined to make one recommendation to fill an empty position so the board would have seven members; recommendations for two soon-to-be-vacant seats will be made at a later date.
Only one of the six applicants for the open seat was present - that name will be forwarded to City Council.
In anticipation of the eclipses in 2023 and 2024, CVB Executive Director Patricia Moore said the mayor was contacted by a NASA ambassador who wanted to provide several free programs, and meet with Bandera ISD Superintendent Jerry Hollingsworth.
Moore hosted a meeting at Mansfield Park today for local goverment and organizations to talk about community needs and event planning.
Pct. 3 Commissioner Jack Moseley discussed the work required to coordinate the Christmas lighting at the Bandera County courthouse, and the small display at Bandera City Park - all of which was done by volunteers. He said there was a fund balance available with the Chamber of Commerce, and juvenile probationers were constructing a new manger for the courthouse display.
A Christmas lights workshop has been set for Aug. 5, at 5:30 p.m., at City Hall.
Board members unanimously approved a community-wide workshop to get local churches, civic organizations, businesses and any interested individuals together at Mansfield Park. The date has yet to be determined.
Finally, the board discussed setting a deadline for requests and advertising for applications for promotional funding for the 2022 FY. The deadline to apply is Sept. 30. Download the PDF here, or at the top of this page.
