Lakehills American Legion and Boys & Girls Club teach U.S. Flag course to local youth
Over the last week, Lakehills American Legion Post #410, working closely with the Boys & Girls Club of Bandera County, provided basic American Flag courses for local Bandera area youth at Hill Country Elementary and Alkek Elementary. The course is a multi-media presentation using projection and video, as well as practical live demonstration and hands-on instruction.
“This is a very basic class that teaches youngsters about the history of the flag, how to respect it, to honorably retire it when it is no longer able to be used, and ends with each child being taught how to fold the flag properly,” Tom Kral, a senior member of Post #410 in Lakehills, said.
In all, more than 65 youth experienced the class over two days at both locations, which host Boys & Girls Club summer programs.
“We always strive to bring quality education content to our local youth. This simple two-hour class showing in an assembly type format was easy for our youth members to understand and taught them the basic respect for our Nation and our Flag that the Boys & Girls club embodies as youth citizens,” Amy Ouellette, CEO of Boys & Girls Club of Bandera County, said.
American Legion Post #410 will offer this class to any organization of youth for free. Simply call the post at 830-612-1034 or email them directly at americanlegion410@gmail.com.
