Shelters across Texas are partnering with the Bissell Pet Foundation and asking for help as they struggle and face difficult decisions because of overcrowding. Hundreds of pets are entering shelters and rescues every day, but animal adoptions are down by 30 to 50 percent. That means many homeless pets are coming in, kennels are overcrowded, and the animals' length of stay is increasing. Shelter staffs are overworked and overwhelmed with no end in sight.
Bandera County's largest dog rescue, A Doggie 4 You in Pipe Creek, is feeling the squeeze too. The nonprofit rescue, funded only by public donations, has reached its maximum of 150 dog capacity. Yes, 150 dogs is a lot, and the rescue hates having to turn down numerous daily calls of pleas for help with strays or owner-surrendered dogs.
To save more dogs, the rescue is seeking dog lovers interested in becoming temporary volunteer foster parents. For every dog securing a foster placement, opens up a space for another dog in need of a safe place to rest its weary and hungry body. A Doggie 4 You provides the foster with dog food, a crate, collar, leash, toys and of course a loving dog. The rescue has dogs of all ages and sizes which need a safe home with a secure, fenced yard and your love and affection.
Fostering is a short-term solution until there is an adopter for your foster dog. When an adopter is found, A Doggie 4 You asks the foster to return the dog and its equipment to the rescue. You do not need to attend any adoption events as stated in the foster application. This will be a wonderful experience, especially if you have always wanted to help a rescue, but did not know how.
Interested foster parents, please click the link below and complete a foster application. The foster coordinator will reach out once your application is received. Please be patient as with all-volunteer organizations it may take a little time to get back to you. Thank you for responding to #HELP OUR SHELTERS.
