A nice sized crowd lined Old San Antonio road outside the Bandera High School practice field for the second annual Popsicle Bowl Saturday morning.
Coaches were happy with the hour-and-a-half-long intra-squad scrimmage with both varsity and JV players participating after practicing for just five days.
As usual at this point so early in the season, the offense is a little more on track than the defense, but good plays were made on both sides of the ball.
Offensively, the Bulldogs found the end zone with a short touchdown pass and three rushing scores.
Brock Johnson and Jesse Cardenas took snaps with starting QB, Tyler Moore, needing another UIL day before being able to play in pads.
The JV offense was on track as well behind Dylan Gherman at QB and Jake Lannon and Adan Ramos both at RB.
Defensively, there were some good stops, hard hits and tackling was decent for just the first week in.
"Today was a really good scrimmage, probably the best first week of practice so far. We are evaluating the guys all the time and today was a big help," coach Joel Fontenot-Amedee said.
This Friday, Bulldog Stadium will be the scene of a dogfight as Bandera hosts the LaPryor Bulldogs for the first of two preseason scrimmages.
The JV will start at 5 p.m. with the varsity to follow.
