CHRISTIAN WOMEN’S JOB CORPS is taking applications for their next training session. Applications are due by Monday, Aug. 23 and can be printed out online. Interviews will take place Aug. 25 and 26. Classes will begin Tuesday, Aug. 31 and continue through Thursday, Nov. 18, with a graduation date of Friday, Nov. 19.
Each session lasts 12 weeks, Tuesday through Thursday, with lunch provided, and is free to adult women, providing “a safe Christ-centered environment that encourages spiritual, professional and personal growth,” according to the Job Corps mission statement.
The Job Corps would welcome additional teachers, sponsors, mentors and volunteers.

OUT OF THE WAY CAFE is the new kid on the block. They plan to open on Wednesday, Sept. 1, serving country breakfast, lunch and plenty of coffee. Located at 11816 PR 37 in Lakehills, the hours will be 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays; and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends. They can be found on Facebook.
OUTLAW BARBER SHOP is moving to 9184 FM 1283. While still serving customers at the current location, 9615 FM 1283, they hope to be moved into the new building by Oct. 1. For more information, follow them on Facebook.
AMERICAN LEGION POST 410, 147 Legion Dr. in Lakehills, serves home cooked meals every Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m. Each week offers a different dish, with sides and beverage for $8 a plate. Desserts are available for a small amount and diners may eat in or take out. The funds raised support the Post for the benefit of the community.
The Post is open to the public every day except Thursdays, from 4 p.m. All are welcome.

On Aug. 16, Medina Lake is at 33.6 per cent capacity. The lake level is 1025.50 feet, which is down 38.70 feet.
The Medina River has a flow of 13.8 cfs in Bandera, standing 3.36 feet deep at the gage.
