NATIONAL GRANDPARENTS DAY is the first Sunday after Labor Day, Sept 12, this year. Congress passed the proclamation in 1978 and President Jimmy Carter signed it.
Traditionally, flowers are given in appreciation to grandparents on this day.
ALAMO RC&D, Senior Assistance Program, continues the Senior Walk-In Pantry every month.
Each senior household must pre-register at alamorcd.org. If you have trouble, text 210-548-9248 for assistance.
The next Food Pantry distribution will be held on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2:30-4 p.m., at The Way Church, 7789 FM 1283. The pantry will be open; masks and distancing required. Call for more information.
Alamo RC&D seeks donations for the purchase of food. Donors can help on the website: alamorcd.org. The organization is a 501(c)3 non-profit so all donations are tax deductible.
PIPE CREEK CEMETERY ASSOCIATION has canceled their annual meeting, which would have taken place on Sept. 11. They will hold their board member election by mail and collect the annual dues by mail. Members can mail their dues and their vote by Sept. 11 to Eva Evans. For more information, call Eva at 210-273-8079.
CAJUN FESTIVAL will be held on Sept. 25 and will be dedicated to Bob Caswell, founder. For now the need is for volunteers to help prepare the foodstuffs. If you can help, contact Barbara Engel at 830-460-0600 or cutaway12@att.net; or call Sam Granberry at 830-688-2958 or Gary Cox at 210-885-6435.

OUTLAW BARBER SHOP will celebrate the Grand Opening of their new location on Saturday, Oct. 2, from noon to 3 p.m. There will be food and water, live music, gift certificates, and door prizes at 9084 FM 1283, at the hot pink building. AMERICAN LEGION POST 410, 147 Legion Dr. in Lakehills, serves home cooked meals every Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m. Each week offers a different dish, with sides and beverage for $8 a plate. Desserts are available for a small amount and diners may eat in or take out. The funds raised support the Post for the benefit of the community.
The Post is open to the public every day except Thursdays, from 4 p.m. All are welcome.

LAKEHILLS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 150 Ave. J in Lakehills, offers a free drive-through community meal, Bread of Life, every Monday, at 5:30 p.m.
The TWIGS program for elementary age kiddos will begin Monday, Sept. 13, after school. It will occur every Monday during the school year.
In addition, the church has begun to offer a Drive-Thru Food Pantry every other Friday, from 10 a.m. to noon, or until the food runs out. Future dates are Sept. 17 and Oct. 1. Call 830-751-2404 for more information.

On Sept. 6, Medina Lake is at 31.4 per cent capacity. The lake level is 1023.36 feet, which is down 40.84 feet.
The Medina River has a flow of 9.91 cfs in Bandera, standing 3.27 feet deep at the gage.
