Silver Sage to host monthly songwriter showcase

By Lisa Beck Crawford
Special to the Prophet

The Texas Hill Country is home to a vast array of songwriters. So why in the world don’t we show them off? I think we should. I think we will.
Starting Thursday, Oct. 14, and continuing the second Thursday night of each month, the Silver Sage will host a wonderful night of music, stories and laughter. We will have one featured artist each month and they will play a two-set show. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., the show will start at 7 p.m. and end roughly around 9:15 – 9:30-ish p.m. There will be a short intermission during which popcorn, soft drinks and candy will be available for purchase in the lobby (BYOB). The cost of admission is $10 with half going to our featured artist and the other half going to help fund The Cottages of Silver Sage.
Our very first featured songwriter will be George Ensle. From my perspective, George has a very deep connection to the American hard-working family and his writing reflects the joy and struggles found there-in.
The Silver Sage is very excited to offer this new monthly event and hope you will be too. We look forward to your involvement and support for our featured artists and funding of The Cottages of Silver Sage.
The Silver Sage is located at 803 Buck Creek Drive in Bandera.

George Ensle
George Ensle (pronounced Enslee) is a veteran singer/songwriter who began his career in Houston in 1967 sharing stages with legends Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark and Billy Joe Shaver. He pens his own brand of StorySongs, powerfully crafted and played with his unique finger picking style on his vintage Martin D-35 and Fender Resonator guitar.
He is celebrating 50 years as a performing songwriter and in February 2017 was inducted into the Houston Folk Music Archives at Rice University.
He has won numerous songwriting awards, been awarded Government grants to teach children through the Artist in the Schools program, and released albums and CDs in the US and Europe, including a Movie–in-Song CD, “Small Town Sundown,” based on his original story, which he performs as a one man “Songplay.”
