Keep in Beat with the Bandera Library

Have you been by the library lately? Work on our Native Plant garden has been going on for a couple of months and it is now fully installed. With help from a grant from the Native Plant Society of Texas, the Board of Directors, and a team of volunteers, the library’s grounds will be a haven for pollinators. Each of the plants were selected to support local wildlife and have minimal watering needs. As with any garden, the work will be ongoing so if you would like to help our native plant garden, call the library to volunteer.
If you have a youngster age 6 and up who is interested in computers or gaming, sign them up for the first Coding Academy program on Thursday, Nov. 4, from 10 a.m. to noon. This will be the first in a monthly program hosted by the library and our new partner SmartCode Coding Academy. The kids will learn the basics of computer coding, game building, graphic design, videography and much more. Space is limited so sign up soon.
The voting for our Pumpkin Decorating Contest is underway. Stop by the library or check out our Facebook profile to vote for your favorite book character pumpkin.
Don’t miss the library’s trunk at this year’s Nightmare on Maple Street Trunk or Treat event. We will be there with our broomsticks and wands from 5 - 9 p.m.
With Halloween rapidly approaching, now is the perfect time to pick up a spooky book. The library’s featured display has scary stories for all ages. This week, there is also a new horror fiction by Cassandra Khaw titled “Nothing But Blackened Teeth.” The story begins at an abandoned mansion dating from the Heian-era (8th to 12th century Japan). The palatial home has a dark and terrifying past which makes it perfect for daredevil girlfriends looking for some thrills before their friend’s wedding ceremony. An evening of games, food and drinks soon turns into a nightmare.
The Bandera Library is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Masks are recommended while in the library building. Check out our website www.banderacountylibrary.org for all up-to-date information.
