EARLY VOTING continues this week through Friday, Oct. 29. It is being held in three locations in Bandera County: Lakehills Area Library, 7200 FM 1283; Election Office, Ray Mauer Bldg, 403 12th St, Bandera; and Medina Annex, 161 E. Parker St, Medina. The hours are Mondays and Wednesdays through Fridays, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. On Tuesdays, the hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters must bring photo IDs with them to any of these locations. Curbside voting and sample ballots are available.
ELECTION DAY is Tuesday, Nov. 2. Every voter must vote in their own precinct, shown on their voter registration card, and must bring a photo ID. The hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sample ballots and curbside voting are available. Our East End precincts are #102, voting at Pipe Creek Fire Department, 1331 FM 1283; #203, voting at Lakehills Area Library, 7200 FM 1283; and #204, voting at Lakehills Civic/Community Center, 11225 PR 37, Lakehills.
The LAKEHILLS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH has a community garden available for Lakehills residents. Individuals or families may pick a bed, or two, and plant what they want. They are seeking gardeners now for fall planting. Call the church for more information at 830-751-2404.
LAKEHILLS COMMUNITY CENTER will offer flu shots, provided by Alamo Ranch HEB Pharmacy, on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 10 a.m. to Noon. Bring your insurance card; if uninsured it will cost $24.99. All are welcome.
LAKEHILLS LAST SATURDAY FALL MARKET is Saturday, Oct. 30, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Lakehills Community Center, 11225 PR 37. Free parking, free admission, many vendors, food and fun. More goodies for all you Christmas shoppers.
PIPE CREEK PUMPKIN PATCH will be open one more weekend in October, 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. It offers many activities for kiddos 10 years and younger. Located at Hwy. 16 and Phil’s Rd., in Pipe Creek, admission is $6 per person, children 2 and under are free. Tickets may be purchased with cash or all major credit cards. IN LIEU OF “TRICK OR TREAT” the Lakehills Area Library will provide treats for the kiddos at the library, 7200 FM 1283, 5 to 7 p.m. Outdoors around the walking track, there will be many stations with much candy for the kids to travel around, while showing off their costumes.
The Western Heritage Cowboy Church is having a Cowboy Carnival for the youngsters, at the church, 7146 FM 1283, 6:30 to 8 p.m. The event is inside the Big Red Barn, where the young people can play games for prizes and receive candy.
NEW LIFE RESALE, will hold their rescheduled Fall Festival on Saturday, Nov. 6, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the proceeds benefiting Pipe Creek Christian School. Located at 1990 FM 1283, they will feature Guardians of the Children, who will bring their motorcycles and educate people about child abuse and what to look for. They have also added a water slide, bouncy house, face painting, barbecue, Drift Away Band, bake sale, and a dozen awesome vendors. In addition, the thrift store will hold a summer clearance sale. CASTLE LAKE RANCH VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT has returned with their 35th Annual Turkey Shoot on Saturday, Nov. 6, rain or shine. Come win your Thanksgiving turkey and enjoy food, market day vendors, children’s activities, and a silent auction. There will also be a drawing for an AR-15 rifle. Tickets may be purchased at the Center, 11225 PR 37, or at Cutaway Salon, 9650 FM 1283. It is BYOB and snacks, set ups, ice for sale. Wear your favorite costumes from that era and enjoy live music by Texas Tide.

AMERICAN LEGION POST 410, 147 Legion Dr. in Lakehills, serves home cooked meals every Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m. Each week offers a different dish, with sides and beverage for $8 a plate. Desserts are available for a small amount and diners may eat in or take out. The funds raised support the Post for the benefit of the community.
The Post is open to the public every day except Thursdays, from 4 p.m. All are welcome.

VETERANS DAY is a federal holiday in the United Staes observed annually on November 11, for honoring military veterans, that is, persons who have served in the United States Armed Forces (and were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable). It is celebrated to mark the anniversary of the end of World War I. Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect.
Veterans Day is distinct from Memorial Day. Veterans Day celebrates the service of all US military veterans, while Memorial Day honors those who had died while in military service. Armed Forces Day, also in May, honors whose who are currently serving the in US military.
The LAKEHILLS AREA LIBRARY will host a Holiday Market to be held on Saturday, Nov. 13. There is still room for local vendors of arts, crafts, gifts, food items and more. Outdoor spaces are $20; porch spaces are $25; and indoor spaces are $25. Table rentals are $10, where available. Contact the library for more information: 830-510-2777, or stop by at 7200 FM 1283. This is yet another opportunity for Christmas shopping, while supporting the library as well as our local artisans.

On October 24, Medina Lake is at 28.6 per cent capacity. The lake level is 1020.56 feet, which is down 43.64 feet.
The Medina River has a flow of 13.4 cfs in Bandera, standing 3.36 feet deep at the gage.
