EnrollSA is now serving rural counties
Contributed
EnrollSA is a coalition of healthcare, faith-based and community organizations with the sole goal to increase enrollment into health insurance in San Antonio and the surrounding areas. EnrollSA strives to be culturally responsive and offers appointments seven days a week with evening appointment options as well. They also provide bilingual service as needed.
Texas has the highest rate of uninsured families in the country, with 18.4 percent uninsured as of 2019. It is well known that the health status of a community is tied directly to number of community members having access to health care and health insurance. With the Affordable Health Care Act in place and the possible financial assistance available, studies show that four out of five people can qualify for a health care plan for $10 or less a month.
As EnrollSA expands its reach, their focus is on the rural counties to include Bandera, Kerr, Kendall and Medina with outreach and enrollment events. Through CentroMed/EnrollSA, there are two community members who are focusing on those counties.
Mary Brosius, who has been a resident of Bandera County for 21 years, has been helping people in our community enroll in Marketplace plans since its birth. Joining her this year is John Milner, who retired from education last year. After spending the last 25 years in Bandera, Milner has no plans to leave and together with Brosius, they are supporting our community in their roles as Federal Navigators with the Marketplace.
Through CentroMed and EnrollSA, citizens in San Antonio and the counties surrounding Bexar County are now able to apply for Health Insurance coverage for the year of 2022. The open enrollment period began on Nov. 1, and will run through an extended deadline of Jan. 15, 2022. For coverage to begin on Jan. 1, 2022, citizens will have to complete enrollment by Dec. 15.
The next Information/Enrollment event will be Tuesday, Nov. 16, at Bandera Kronkosky Library, 515 Main Street, Bandera, 2-5 p.m.
EnrollSA can be contacted as well to set up appointments at www.EnrollSA.com or 210-977-7997.
