Bulldogs go 2-1 against the Coyotes
Varsity and Freshmen move to 2-0 on season

By Brady Keane
BHS Varsity Boys Head Coach

Varsity
The Bandera boys basketball team jumped out to an early lead, fended off a late Uvalde rally and closed the game by scoring eight straight points to take a 56-50 road win over the Coyotes Friday night.
The victory moved the Bulldogs to 2-0 for the first time since the 2014-2015 season.
Bandera jumped all over Uvalde in the first quarter, using high-intensity defense to build an early lead. The Bulldogs extended that lead in the second quarter and didn’t trail until midway through the fourth, when the Coyotes battled back to take a 50-48 lead. Fortunately, senior Ryan Perez came up with a block on the defensive end just seconds later and then finished a layu p through contact in transition to tie the game at 50-50.
Junior Noah Barnett followed that up with a steal and sophomore Kay den Brown regained the lead for theBulldogs with a layup of his own.
Bandera never looked back, coming up with a handful of crucial defensive stops in the final minutes while icing the game from the free throw line.
Perez finished with his second straight double double, posting 10 points and 12 rebounds in the win.
Barnett was one point off a double double of his own, finishing with 9 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists.
Senior Tyler Moore finished with a team-high 20 points and also played a key role in executing the Bulldogs’ defensive game plan to near perfection. Finally, junior Gavin Ortiz, Brown and freshman Eli Salas combined for 17 points and helped to spread the floor by knocking down a handful of 3-point shots.
Bandera will now turn its focus to a pair of Thanksgiving Break games. The Bulldogs will host Class 5A San Antonio Kennedy on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at Bandera Middle School before traveling to Dilley on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Coach’s Notes: “It was exciting to see our kids rise up to the challenge of competing with a defending district champion and an established program like Uvalde on the road early in the season.
We started strong, maintained our energy and intensity from start to finish, and kept our composure down the stretch in what felt like a playoff atmosphere. While we’re excited about the win, we know we still have a lot of room to grow and improve - our guys were right back in the gym Saturday morning, and we’re looking forward to the opportunity to compete tw ice over the Thanksgiving Break.”
