Boys and Girls Club of Bandera County launches capital campaign to replace aging van
The Boys and Girls Club of Bandera County Board of Directors has announced they are beginning a capital campaign to raise enough money to replace the aging Boys & Girls Club transportation van.
The van, a 2002 15-passenger van, has been in service since 2006 and has nearly 200K miles on the odometer. Recently, the Club’s Finance Director Ron Clarke noted the van was no longer an asset, in that the maintenance and upkeep of the van over the last three years far exceeded the worth of the van itself.
“This van has served the youth of Bandera County steadily and reliably for the past almost 20 years. However, like any good workhorse, it is time for her to be put out to pasture and be replaced with another workhorse van that is consistently reliable and that does not require as much maintenance and is more fuel conservative. This vehicle, due to its age simply has absolutely no financial value and is in fact draining the maintenance budget. While it has served us well, this is also a safety issue for us at the Club, as this van often shuttles youth from various schools, events, and between our Club locations. The youth members of the Club and their safety is our top priority, and it is simply safe and prudent to replace this van as soon as we can,” Ron said. “We actually began planning the replacement over a year ago in March of 2020, but pandemic concerns sidelined the project and changed our priorities, but now we need to move forward with the replacement plan.”
Donations may be made directly to the Van Capital Campaign by mailing a tax-deductible contribution to the Club at “Boys & Girls Club
of Bandera County – Van Fund” PO Box 3155, Bandera, Texas 78003, donating online at www.bgcbanderacounty.com or simply dropping by the office during business hours. Questions about donations, large and small may be directed to 830-796-8109.
“This replacement project is longer overdue and every dollar, every $2, or every $100 counts as the community pulls together as they have often to support the Club. This is something that needs the attention of our community. Your support is appreciated,” Board President William “Joey” Bess said.
In addition, there will be events scheduled exclusively to raise money for the van capital campaign. The first scheduled event will a “Free Movie Night” on Friday, Dec. 3 which will be a “Polar Express,” a holiday-themed film.
The event will include the film, a child “bouncy” house and much more.
