The 16-7 Bulldogs have hit a rough spot lately, riding a three game losing streak. After an OT tournament loss to Salado in the championship game last weekend, the Bulldogs hosted a determined Llano Yellowjacket squad that took a 69-68 win in a double OT affair Tuesday night.
Bandera played Pearsall Friday evening at Bandera Middle School with the Mavericks dealing a 60-57 loss to the Bulldogs in a hard fought contest.

After trailing by six points late in the fourth quarter of Tuesday night’s game against Llano, the Bandera varsity boys basketball team stormed from behind and forced overtime after a pair of free throws from senior Ryan Perez tied things up at 54-54 in the final seconds of regulation.
A buzzer-beating layup from senior Liam DeMarchi at the end of the first overtim e period extended things to a second overtime, where the Bulldogs and Yellowjackets continued to go back and forth until another last-second shot from Bandera hit off the rim and fell out as time expired to give Llano a 69-68 win.
The loss was the Bulldogs’ first home loss of the season and dropped the
team to 16-6 on the season.
DeMarchi had a game-high 23 points, 10 rebounds, 4 blocks and 4 assists for Bandera while Noah Barnett had 20 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. Perez added 10 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals, Gavin Ortiz had 9 points and 4 rebounds, Luke Barnett had 4 points and 3 rebo unds, and Tyler Moore had 2 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists.
Coach’s Notes: “We did a really good job of rallying through a slow start and fighting back from a fourth quarter deficit to give ourselves a chance at the end of the game. Ultimately, we turned the ball over too
many times and missed many easy scoring opportunities down the stretch. Games like that, as heartbreaking as they are, will do us a lot of good when the district seaso n starts. Our team has experience in three overtime games now this season. I'm proud of how hard we played but we have to do a better job starting strong out of the gate and also closing games when we have the opportunity to do so. We have two more tough non-district games before we start district next Friday, and they'll both challenge us in a big way as we look to get back on track.

Bandera traveled to Llano on Thursday on Jan. 6. The 7th grade B team started out slow and at half time the score was 10-4. In the third quarter, led by Logan Spangler, they hustled to a 22-6 lead and the game final was 26-8.
The 7th grade A team lost by a score of 30-36. They played close the entire game, but struggled with fast breaks and turnovers.
8th B fought hard but came up short against Llano. Logan Pierce led the team in scoring and was hot from the 3 point line.
8th A top scorers were Gavin Garcia 9, Kenai Jerome 6, Woods 5, Jason Lippy 2, Riley Moran 2.
On Saturday Jan. 8, the BMS boys traveled to Devine to play in an A team tournament. Both 7th and 8th grade played games against Hondo, Marion and Devine. Special thanks goes out to BHS varsity boys coach Brady Keane who traveled between La Pryor and Devine to provide extra support and wisdom to both coaches and players of all sub varsity teams.
The 7th grade team beat Hondo 30-28, Marion 45-14, but lost the championship game to Devine by a score of 24-32. In the championship game Bandera had a lead in the first quarter, but pressure from the press and turnovers turned out to be too much. Dalton Parks was high scorer for each game and Remington Galloway has a great grasp for coming up with rebounds.
The 8th grade boys basketball team fought and played hard over the weekend but came up short losing games to Marion 40-26; Hondo 42-27; and Devine 48-25.
The boys will play against Comfort at home on Thursday, Jan. 13, in the BMS gym. Tip off for 7th and 8th grade B teams is 5 p.m.; A teams begin at 6 p.m.

Seventh grade
The seventh grade "A" team played against the Llano Daubers earlier this week in their first game back from winter break and the Lady Bulldogs scored a 17-14 win. Key in the victory was Jessi Battle scoring 8 points and blocking eight Llano shots. These teams will meet again at the district tournament later on in the season.
Eighth grade
With Kourtney Frerich, Brooklyn Grabs, and Hailee Segura playing outstanding defense against the tall Llano posts, the eighth grade "A" team took a 35-13 win over the Daubers in the nightcap. Offensively, the Bulldogs had their highest-scoring game, fueled by their fast break transition through Llano’s full court pressure. This was by far the team’s most complete effort so far this season.
Powerlifting
Eight out of the 10 Bandera entries finished in a top five spot in their respective weight divisions as the Lady "Power Dawgs" took an overall team silver at the Texas Strength Systems meet on Jan. 6 in San Antonio.
Dorothy Magee was a gold medalist with a three lift total of 545 pounds, Ashley Grodman (560), Emily Garcia (595) and Tanna Flewellen (490) were silver medalists.
Zoe Cruz finished with bronze with a total of 480 pounds, Kamryn Golightly (580) and Hazel Lopez (535) had fourth place finishes and Gracey Brown (495) placed fifth.
Ryann Ledesma and Allisa Cooper also competed for Bandera.
Both powerlifting teams, ladies and mens, will compete at Cornerstone High School this Saturday.
