Lady Bulldogs break fourth-quarter tie to take win over Canyon Lake

By Chris Darus

Bandera’s varsity Lady Bulldogs took until the start of the fourth quarter of Saturday’s noon matinee against Canyon Lake to decide to erase the 0’fer in the win column for district and come away with a 49-37 decision.
Bandera played a decent first quarter, taking a 14-5 lead, but a disastrous first six minutes of the second period saw the Lady Hawks claw their way back to take a 24-22 lead at the half.
Neither team had a stellar third quarter as both teams had trouble in transition and offensive rebounding was basically non-existent. As a result, both teams scored a total of 10 points for the period.
Going into the fourth, with the score tied at 28-28, Bandera took control of the game. Like an on-off switch had been thrown, Bandera played aggressive defense, hitting three pointers and made a high percentage of free throws to forge ahead and get the win.
Bandera is now 1-8 for district with Fredericksburg looming in the shadows for Tuesday’s final game. Fred was edged out by Boerne, 37-35, Saturday for their first loss in district.
No scoring or stats were made available.
