Bandera’s varsity Lady Bulldogs are having a hard time getting that first win in district play, but it isn’t from a lack of effort.
Bandera dropped a 6-0 decision to the visiting Canyon Lake Lady Hawks Saturday. The Hawks jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead and their tenacious defense only allowed 11 shots on net by Bandera.
Coach Keith Kuenzel cited the play of Ashlyn Brown, Lauren Benedict and Goalkeepers, Bietzel Gonzalez and Tatum Hubble, helping to slow Canyon Lake down in the second half.
Tuesday saw Bandera hit the road to Fredericksburg to take on the Lady Billies.
A close first half saw Fred take a 1-0 lead but Fred came out hot early in the second to take a 4-0 win and drop Bandera to 0-3 in district play.
Goalkeeper Gonzalez saved 19 of 23 shots and along with the play of Benedict, Brown, Hannah Edwards, Yadi Mendoza and Isabella Chapa kept Bandera in the contest.
Friday night the team honored their three seniors for Senior Night as Bandera hosted Great Hearts-Northern Oaks.

7th grade A team District Tournament
Monday, Feb. 7
The 7th grade A team had a quiet end to their season this year. The first game of their tournament was their last, but they played with heart and dignity against the Ingram warriors. Losing by two points (13-11) and with a few critical shots rattling out of the rim in the fourth quarter, the last game doesn’t really reflect the hardwork and effort that the lady dogs have put into their craft this season. The girls ended their season with a record of 5-4 and can feel confident that those close games will look different in their 8th grade year. Thank you for making girl’s basketball special and laying the foundation for something great. A special thank you to parents for your support, attendance and kindness.
8th grade A team District Tournament
Thursday, Feb. 11
The 8th grade A team came into the tournament as the 6th place seed and faced off against Comfort, the 3rd place seed, in their first game. The Bulldogs had not played a game in almost a month. With 5 seconds left on the clock, the Lady Dogs broke Comfort’s press with a layup from Brooklyn Grabs and beat Comfort 21 to 20.
Ten minutes later, Bandera was on the court again; the opponent this time…Lago Vista, the 2nd place seed. This was another tight game with several lead changes. Due to foul trouble and some missed opportunities in the waning seconds of the game, the Bulldogs lost 19 to 20.
