Keep in Beat with the Bandera Library

By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director

March promises to be an exciting month for the Bandera Library. The artist-of-the-month gallery will be exhibiting a collection of Native American prints created by students from the 1960s Santa Fe Indian Art Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The students were brought to the school in the 60s to be taught traditional art making skills. The prints were donated by a local art collector and are available for sale. The proceeds of the sales will benefit both the Bandera Library and The Friends of the Hondo Canyon group.
Today is the Medicare 101 class at 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. in the Downstairs Meeting Room. The class size is kept small so that your questions about Medicare can be answered fully. If you are currently on Medicare or are about to age in, come by and learn about what coverage you are entitled to.
Tomorrow, March 3, at 10 a.m., is the Monthly Book Club meeting in the Genealogy Room. The group will be discussing Jon Cohen’s novel “Harry’s Trees.” Who knew working for the U.S. Forest Service could be treeless? Harry Crane is working as an analyst in an office of the Forestry service when his wife dies unexpectedly. To escape his grief, Harry runs to the remote edges of the Pennsylvanian Endless Mountains hoping to lose himself. But the magic of the woods has a different plan. In the forest he meets a young girl named Oriana who has also recently lost of beloved family member. Harry agrees to help the young girl and ends up receiving help from a cast of the most unlikely creatures.
Saturday, March 5, is the Friends of the Library Monthly Book Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Books, DVDs, audiobooks and music on CD are all available by donation. Come by and find something great to read or listen to.
Dungeons and Dragons also meets on Saturday in the Downstairs Meeting Room from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join the group for action and adventure in this popular role-playing game. In March, the library will also host the monthly networking social coordinated by the Bandera Chamber of Commerce called Cork Poppers. The event is open to the public and all are welcome to come by and learn more about the many businesses and ventures based here in Bandera.
The Bandera Library is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Masks are strongly recommended while in the library building. Check out our website www.banderacountylibrary.org for all up-to-date information.
